How to Style a Gallery Wall with Destination Prints

How to Style a Gallery Wall with Destination Prints

A gallery wall of destination prints is one of the most personal and beautiful things you can do with a blank wall. Done well, it tells the story of everywhere you've been and everywhere you're dreaming of going.

Here's exactly how to create one.

Choose Your Destinations

Start with the places that mean the most to you. A honeymoon destination. The place you grew up. Somewhere you've always wanted to go. The most beautiful gallery walls have a personal story behind every print — so choose with your heart first and your eye for design second.

Pick Your Sizes

For a gallery wall we recommend a mix of sizes to create visual interest:

  • One large print (16×24") as the anchor piece
  • Two medium prints (12×18") on either side or below
  • Two or three small prints (8×12") to fill the gaps

This creates a natural hierarchy that draws the eye to the centre and then outwards.

Keep Framing Consistent

The fastest way to make a gallery wall look chaotic is mismatched frames. Stick to one frame style throughout — we recommend thin natural oak or simple white frames to complement the watercolour style. All our prints are standard sizes so frames are easy to find on the high street, at IKEA or online.

Plan Your Layout on the Floor First

Before you put a single nail in the wall, lay all your prints out on the floor in the arrangement you're planning. Live with it for a day. Move things around. It's much easier to change your mind on the floor than it is once everything is hanging.

Start From the Centre

When you're ready to hang, start with your largest anchor print and work outwards. Find the centre of your wall, hang the largest print first at eye level, then build the arrangement around it.

Get the Spacing Right

The sweet spot for gallery wall spacing is 5-8cm between frames. Too close and it looks cramped. Too far apart and it looks like a collection of separate pictures rather than a gallery wall.

Add Some Depth

Once your prints are up, style the space around them. A small plant on a shelf below, a ceramic vase on a sideboard, a trailing plant in the corner — these additions make the gallery wall feel like part of the room rather than something stuck on a wall.
